| Bowmen of Birstall |
The Bowmen of Birstall were formed 40 years ago in 1963. Originating in the Birstall area, the club moved to various shooting grounds before settling 28 years ago off Meadow Lane in the village. Unfortunately the summer of 2002 was to be our last year at that venue and after much searching the club has now relocated to Leicester Forest East at the 'Old Newtonians Rugby Club'. Although not in the Birstall area the club will be keeping its name. Over the years the club has become one of the strongest in the County and the Region, winning numerous county team trophies together with winning the National Indoor Championships Team title. The club is predominantly a target archery club having members past and present that have represented Leicestershire & Rutland, the East Midlands, England and Great Britain at both junior and senior level. The club runs a beginners course each year during the summer and holds several "Have a Go's" for local companies and groups. Mixed in with the shooting the club has social events each year such as walks, bike rides and an annual dinner. The clubs meets to shoot on Tuesdays and Fridays and visitors are always welcome. |

We run a number of beginners courses for those interested in starting archery. | Foxes Archery Club | The Foxes Archery Club is based at Farnham Bridge Farm, Rothley, Leicester. It is a target archery club and it has an active junior club associated with it, The Junior Foxes, for archers under 18 years. During the outdoor season [April to end September] the club has normally three sessions/week, Tuesday and Thursday evenings and also Saturday mornings, but normally we can shoot at other times as well. Indoor shooting takes place at Winstanley College [just off Hinckley Road] on Saturday mornings between the end of September and the end of March , but we are hopeful that very soon we will get an evening session mid week also. We have archers at all levels of expertise including some who regularly represent the County in inter County matches. Many of our archers shoot in tournaments while others just shoot for the fun of it. The club runs tournaments, fun shoots, Have -A- Go's, enters postal leagues and runs BEGINNER'S COURSES throughout the year. We welcome novice as well as experienced archers. Our members are very friendly and new archers integrate easily into a good club atmosphere. | Kirby Muxloe Archery Club |
Kirby Muxloe Archer Club is one of the oldest clubs in the county. It was first formed in the late 1950s and, after a break of a few years, was revived with its present constitution in the 1970s. The re-forming of the club was achieved by Liz and Len Byfield who approached the Committee of Kirby Muxloe Village Sports and Social Club for permission to shoot on the Sports Club field. The club now has about 40 members, of whom about 30 are active archers (6 women, 6 juniors and 18 men). In the summer we meet regularly on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the Sports Club. Our winter quarters are at Groby College (Tuesday evenings, 7.15 pm - 10.15 pm). Most archers shoot recurve bows but we have two compound archers and four members who also shoot longbow. Our club hosts and organises some of the top FITA Star competitions in the County, along with Rose award competitions, an autumn St Nicholas 'fun' shoot and many club shoots. The latter include winter postal Portsmouth rounds and Frostbites, and a Christmas 'fun' shoot. We are also a socially orientated club, organising long-alley skittle evenings, a club Christmas dinner and a barbecue to round off the outdoor club championships. |

We have male and female archers, able bodied & disabled, ranging from six years old to the late seventies. In the winter we shoot indoors at the Holwell Rifle Club on Wednesday evenings and all day Saturday & Sunday. This is a purpose built rifle club and offers us one of the best indoor archery facilities in the county, if not the country. In the summer, (and when the weather suits in the winter), we shoot outdoors at Gretton Court field (opposite the BP fuel station on the Leicester Road). Both sites are in Melton Mowbray in rural Leicestershire, England. We shoot mainly target archery, using recurve bows, compound bows and traditional longbow. We are one of the few clubs in the Midlands who will teach archery to absolute beginners. We also loan all equipment, free of charge, during training.
