County Team

Here are the steps for Selection into the County team.

All archers affiliated through L&RCAA are eligible to represent the county.

There are 4 county selection shoots at the beginning of each outdoor season. This year these are :-

  1. 27th April EMAS FITA Star - KMAC
  2. 11th May Non Record Status York / Hereford - Great Glen.
  3. 18th May LAOFAC York/Hereford Senior & junior rounds.
  4. 25th May County Fita at Glen Senior & junior rounds.

Archers who wish to be considered for the first County match must shoot 3 of the 4 selection shoots. Juniors must shoot 2 of the 3.

Archers who have attained the status of Grand Master Bowmen ( GMB) in the last outdoor season will automatically be selected for the first County Match.

L&RCAA archers are ranked according to their position in the county shoot, after visitor scores have been taken out. 1 point for first place, 2 points for second place, 3 for third and so on. Best three scores are then totalled and the archers with the lowest number of points are selected for the first county shoot. (Remember 3 of the 4 shoots must be shot.) Any tied scores will be taken into consideration.

For the remaining county matches, including the Senior Inter-Counties Match, (Thoresby Trophy , Bradgate Trophy and Longbow team) the selection process is widened to include archers who did not shoot the required selection shoots. Selection is then based on scores achieved in competitive 12 dozen rounds. Note the round must be 12 dozen (FITA or GNAS) and the competition must be an open competition, a club shoot may be taken into consideration. The archer must submit his/her score to the County Captain who will bring this to the attention of the selection committee, which is :-

Please take note that the County Captain keeps a record of all archers scores for the outdoor season, but the responsibility is YOURS to make sure that the County Captain gets them.

Junior Archers

In a bid to get more juniors out of their clubs and shooting in county based competitions we decided bribery was the best option!

Bribery in the form of CHOCOLATE.  Juniors of any level - just completed a beginners through to county or national level - are encouraged to come along to our Chocolate shoots.  The children shoot a national round according to their age and then afterwards shoot at paper plates to win chocolate.

This is a fun event, aimed at getting the youngsters used to shooting a competition in a relaxed atmosphere, and allowing them the chance to get to know other juniors in the county.  A big bonding and team building time.

The shoots are FREE all we need is parent support.

Many members of the Junior County Team came to notice first through the Chocolate shoots. We have an outdoor shoot in April and then three in September which leads to the winning of a team trophy.

Details are sent to club secretary's at the appropriate times.

Leicestershire and Rutland Juniors have a reputation of being a very good team and regularly beat their competitors, we are very proud of them.

If you think your youngster has potential get them to shoot two of the selection shoots and put their scores into the Team Captain.

Good Shooting - and remember we want your scores this year.
